EDI stands for Electronic Data Interchange. It is a standardized format and process for exchanging business documents between computer systems without human intervention.

Today, EDI standards are maintained and updated by various organizations, such as UN/CEFACT (United Nations Center for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business) and GS1 (Global Standards One). These organizations work with companies and technology providers in improving and evolving EDI standards.
